The increase of online retail sales has resulted in the increase of the crime of package theft.  The majority of package theft occur by someone walking down the street and seeing the opportunity to grab a package.  Everyday 1.7 million packages are stolen or lost in the United States.  That adds up to $25 million in lost goods and services per day or $9 billion per year. Nearly 1 in 5 Americans have reported a package stolen.  Each stolen item cost an average of $109 to replace.  US customers spend an average of $209 per month on online orders. 42% of customers avoid buying expensive items online due to the fear of theft.
